WHY MATURE WOMEN ARE                       SUCCESSFUL WORKING FROM HOME

As women we go through many different transitions in life and around the age of 50 is another big one. Not only physically are our bodies changing but so is our everyday routine. We oftentimes feel invisible or unimportant. Many women are experiencing an empty nest for the first time with their kids off to college or having moved all over the world. For women who were home raising their families all these years the house feels quiet and empty. The daily interactions with friends at play dates, school sports events, volunteering at the kid’s school are no longer and women feel lonely or isolated. Many are ready to get a job but are afraid they no longer have the skills and experience required after all the years away from the workplace. They want to contribute to the family income, leave a legacy for their kids, be able to take care of themselves should something happen to their spouses job or health but they also need a job that allows them flexibility to work part time around their other commitments. Be able to go visit their kids and grandbabies when they want. Or travel with their retired husbands. They don’t want to give up the community work they’ve been involved in. This kind of job is not easy to find!!

Other women over 50 are starting to look towards retirement or are already retired from careers they have enjoyed. No longer do they have the daily comraderies of their “work family” or a scheduled place to be Monday – Friday 9-5 so they become bored and feel lost. Others want to retire from their jobs but can’t afford to right now.

For whatever reason divorce or even being widowed around this age is prevalent, leaving many women fearful of how they will take care of themselves financially. All women are used to being productive all day long in their younger years, contributing meaningfully to their families, career and community. After 50 when their roles begin to change they need to reinvent themselves but oftentimes don’t know where to start and where to get support.

What most women 50 and above don’t realize is that all their “life” training has been invaluable and worth way more than any J-O-B could ever pay. There is an industry that is a perfect fit with the lifestyle the woman over 50 desires. A career choice that allows for flexibility and no income ceiling. What you put in is what you get out. A career where the skills you’ve spent decades unknowinglymperfecting are highly respected and sought after. They are skills that you can’t easily teach. They come with life experience. There is only one career path I know of that pays a premium price for just being you. It can create health, purpose and abundance in all aspects of life. That career is in Network Marketing.

Network marketing is a business that depends on good relationships. It is a business where you share a high quality product you use and love and recommend it to people just as you would a product you bought at Target or Walmart that you tried and had great results. Only difference is Target won’t pay you for your recommendation. In fact they will never even know you did it. In network marketing, companies recognize and thank their customers and pay large amounts of money to people who share their experiences with others. Network marketing is for people who enjoy meeting new people and nurturing the relationships they already have. It’s for people who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves and make a difference in people’s lives. Your success depends not only on your efforts but your ability to serve, lead, motivate and help others succeed too.

According to the Direct Selling Association’s 2016 annual report:

-More than 20 million people were involved in direct selling in the U.S. in 2015, with estimated      retail sales reaching $36.12 billion – a 4.8% increase from 2014. This outpaced both the                    growth rate for traditional retail sales and the Gross Domestic Product in the U.S.
-Network Marketing Industry increases by 600,000 people per year.
-Nationwide, one in six U.S. households have someone involved in direct selling.
-More than 77% of people involved in direct selling in 2015 were women
-85% of women making over $100,000 are in direct sales and network marketing.
-74% of baby boomers are looking for a creative second career that allows them when to work      when they want after they retire
-44.4% of people involved with direct selling/network marketing are 45 and over.

Sonia Stringer, professional speaker, coach and popular mentor to women in the network marketing/direct selling profession says “Women and network marketing seem to fit together as perfectly as chocolate and peanut butter. Perhaps it’s because success in this business is so dependent on factors like teamwork, collaboration, coaching and connection- generally traits that come naturally to women.”

Women over 50 have a significant advantage over not only men in network marketing because of these attributes, but also their younger female counterparts because those types of skills are developed over time and with maturity.

Team Work- Whether at an office or putting on a church fundraiser working as a team is common for women. Women are joiners. They know that it is more fun when you work with others. Women over 50 have learned to leave their ego at the door for the highest good of the team. They don’t need to be in the spotlight or need to prove themselves. They know their strengths. They have learned to play well with others and manage different personalities.  They are a lot less drama. They are dependable and pull their weight. They know when to lead and when to support.  Being part of a network marketing team gives you new connections and new friendships and a new place to belong. Network marketing allows women to be leaders of a team but also to be taught by and work alongside extraordinary people.

Collaboration- Women are multi-taskers. We have to be to juggle all that life throws at us. And when younger, many women feel they have to be the perfect, wife, spouse, friend, daughter and TRY to be wonder woman. Being there for everyone. Women over 50 have given up this crazy notion. For the first time they are at the forefront of their life and have the time to focus on themselves and what makes them happy. They already KNOW they are wonder woman and they have the physical and emotional scars to prove it. They have honed all the skills necessary to do a million things at once but have also learned through the years they don’t have to do it all. They can do what they are good at and ask for help and delegate the rest. They have seen that their most successful experiences were not ones they did alone but where they got together with other people and worked towards a common goal. They enjoy the give & take and sharing of ideas. They like the community of like-minded people collaboration facilitates naturally. Collaboration is vital to the success of the network marketer. Every successful network marketer knows that they can’t do this business alone, nor do they want to. It’s fun to work with energetic, forward thinking, go-getters. Everyone grows faster and stronger with collaboration.

Coaching- Coaches train or instruct someone or a team in a specific skill area. Women are natural coaches. Who teaches their children how to brush their teeth, or how to do their laundry or just about everything? Who are the kids soccer coaches and girl scout leaders? Who are team leaders and trainers at work?  Women over 50 know A LOT of stuff just by being around on earth awhile. People are looking for their life wisdom. Women at this age have figured out how they best communicate their ideas though trial and error  and have learned how to adjust their “coaching” style when needed just having dealt with all kinds of people over the years. Coaches are motivators and cheerleaders and sometimes shoulders to cry on. Women over 50 have been there with a friend whose lost a parent or cheered their husbands on in their careers. They know how to pick someone up, be there for someone and also show them the way. As one builds a team in network marketing being a good coach to those you are supporting is important for all of your success. Having the skills to be motivational, empathetic, knowing when and how far and in what way to push someone to be their best is a skill all the top network marketers have mastered.

Connection-Women are natural sharers and relationship builders. They share everything from their favorite baby foods, to favorite restaurants, to the trusted professionals they use with friends and family. They engage in conversation with the grocery clerk and the UPS guy and the person they are waiting on a long line with at the airport. They listen with an empathetic ear. They sincerely try to help solve a problem. They bring people together. They are collectors of people. Women over 50 have made thousands of connections over the years. They have built a support system. They are natural networkers. They have large networks even if they think they don’t. How many organizations and kids activities have they been involved with over the years-A LOT! They are already trusted by many and are people’s go to person for their recommendations and knowledge. People do business with those they KNOW, LIKE & TRUST. In network marketing this is an absolute truth. A woman over 50 has naturally cultivated these type of relationships for years.

Network Marketing is more than just another job. It’s more than just selling stuff. It’s more than the incredible money. It’s more than the trips and bonuses. It’s about people. It’s about serving others. It’s about doing good on this planet. It’s about making a difference. A lot of money in the hands of good people can change the world. It’s about looking inside and working on oneself. It’s about growing as a person and not figuring out who you are but instead creating who you are. This way of thinking and living is often the perfect match for a woman over 50 looking to rediscover herself and set new goals.

Mary Portas known for her retail and business TV shows said, “I really, really do believe that the future of being successful in work is going to be about embracing all of those wonderful things women bring-empathy, collaboration, flexibility-all those wonderful feminine traits we’ve suppressed for too long”.

It’s time to embrace all of our woman powers and reignite our spark and Network Marketing can be a part of this newly transformed woman.
